Anormal dispersion of birefringence, linear dichroism, and relationships with ORD (extrinsic Cotton Effect)

Summary

The anormal dispersion of birefringence (ADB) and linear dichroism (LD) of poly-l-glutamic acid-Toluidin blue complexes (PGA-TB) and Pseudoisocyanin (N.N.-Methylpseudoisocyanin) (PIC) aggregates were measured.

Data were obtained which can be compared with the already-published information about optical rotation and Cotton-Effect of the same complexes in solution.

The author finds similarities among the phenomena and discusses the possibility of employing the measurements of ADB and LD as alternative methods for study extrinsic Cotton-Effect-like phenomena in tissue sections and smears.
