Conclusions

  1. 1.

Calculation of the lower-pool revetment can be reduced to a determination of the length of the concrete platform Lre limited to the size of the first solitary wave and of the edge height a corresponding to the condition of free spreading of the flow on the channel stretch beyond the ledge.

  2. 2.

For determining the length of the concrete platform Lre we can recommend formulas (10) and (11) derived for the case when the effect of secondary currents of the lateral eddy regions in the initial stretch of expansion can be neglected.

  3. 3.

Introduction of an expression for the group velocity 0.5< U/c< 1.0 into formulas (10) and (11) makes it possible to take into account the characteristics of the internal structure of the flow, which gives good agreement with the experimental data.

  4. 4.

The height of the ledge a should meet the condition of free spreading of the flow on the channel stretch beyond the ledge, and for a given size of the riprap d of the revetment it can be determined in preliminary calculations by formulas (16) and (16a) and the size can be determined respectively by formulas (17) and (17a).
