Abstract
The scintillation response of naphthalene single crystals to 4.50MeV-α-particles has been investigated as a function of angle of incidence to the (100) and (110) planes. Minima and for the first time in naphthalene narrow maxima within the minima in the scintillation response were observed. The widths and the relative height respectively depth were calculated by the theory of planar channeling and blocking of theα-particles. By considering the detailed shell structure of the target atoms the variation of the electronic energy loss as a function of the position of theα-particle in the channel has been calculated.
