Abstract

The effects of the Pauli principle are investigated for the alpha-nucleus system by introducing the operator 1-K. The operator describes the overlap of the alpha particle with the nucleus which depends on the relative distance and velocity. Formal properties of this operator are discussed and various methods of its calculation are described. The impact of this operator on physical quantities is demonstrated. These quantities are the alphanucleus potential and the reduced alpha amplitude or the alpha spectroscopic factor. We investigate also to what extent the orthogonality condition prescribing the number of nodes of a bound alpha particle is able to take into account the effects of the Pauli principle. This orthogonality condition is used in the standard DWBA analysis of α-transfer experiments. A numerical calculation shows that this condition is less meaningful for heavy nuclei.
