Abstract
A recently reported side band in162Er is shown by in-beam conversion electron spectroscopy to have negative parity. The internal conversion coefficients α K of three transitions connecting high-spin side band states to the ground state band, with energies 652.7, 765.4, and 889.7 keV, were measured to be (0.29±0.03)×10−2, (0.21±0.03)×10−2, and (0.16 ±0.03)× 10−2, respectively. These correspond to values expected for E1 transitions. The high-spin negative parity levels, as well as some lower spin levels, are interpreted in context of the quadrupole-octupole coupling model.
