Model of stability of revetments of earth spillway slopes

Conclusions

  1. 1.

On the basis of solving the differential equation of motion a mathematical model of the stability of revetment elements of earth slopes used for discharging waters was developed. The model makes it possible with a high reliability to evaluate the stability of elements of various configuration under the dynamic effet of the discharge flow.

  2. 2.

Of the examined types of revetments, riprap was the least stable in the flow. The stability of the protective revetment of earth spillway slopes noticeably increases on changing to two-dimensional (three-dimensional) elements. The most stable are wedge-shaped elements with drain holes. Their stability compared with two-dimensional (three-dimensional) elements increases due to the hydrodynamic surcharge, decrease of seepage load, and increase of frictional forces owing to the specific configuration of the elements and placement with their interlocking.

  3. 3.

The value of the critical (inadmissible) movement of elements relative to the center of gravity is taken as the revetment stability criterion.
