The effect of amino acids on the rate of hydroxylation of cholesterol catalyzed by Mn and Fe porphyrinates

Abstract

The rate and extent of hydroxylation of cholesterol catalyzed by Mn and Fe porphyrinates in the presence of NaBH4 increase with the addition of cysteine and histidine. This effect is more pronounced for cysteine. Leucine does not accelerate the process.
