Consideration of anisotropy of seepage and strength properties of hydraulic fill when designing hydraulic structures

Hydrotechnical Construction Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

On the basis of the results of investigations presented in the article, it is recommended to take into account the anisotropy of the seepage and strength properties of hydraulic fill when designing and calculating hydraulic-fill sand structures.

  2. 2.

The position of the distributing pipeline and sequence of constructing individual elements of a hydraulic-fill sand structure should be selected so that the stratification of the deposits forming during operation, due to anisotropy of the seepage properties, promotes the maximum possible lowering of the seepage line in the structure, and due to anisotropy of the strength properties, the calculated curves of sliding on intersecting this bedding provides a maximum slope-stability factor.
