Results of investigations and experimental introduction of the method of longitudinal segments when assembling penstocks of hydroelectric stations

  • Published:
Hydrotechnical Construction Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Whereas in the traditional technology the shell segments were manufactured only on powerful rolls, the proposed method permits manufacturing the longitudinal sectors also by stamping.

  2. 2.

The proposed method of fabricating links of outsize penstocks from longitudinal segments permits dispensing with the construction of specialized shops and considerably reduces the area of production facilities during construction.

  3. 3.

The engineering possibilities of fabricating links from longitudinal segments permits transferring all works under the ground, where atmospheric conditions (rain and negative temperature) do not affect the performance of the works. Underground conditions permit creating a continuous conveyor of assembly works and achieving good results even at construction projects in the Far North and Siberia.
