Errors of on-site turbine power tests with indirect measurement of the discharge

Hydrotechnical Construction Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The relative test method without preliminary calibration of the flowmeter site of the scroll casing can give sufficiently reliable results in determining the optimal zone and form of the performance characteristic of Francis turbines, whereas its use for refining the operating characteristics of Kaplan turbines cannot be recommended.

  2. 2.

The problem of the effect of the head and lower pool level on calibration of the flowmeter site has been insufficiently studied, but individual test results indicate the possibility of a change in calibration from the effect of these factors within 1–2%.

  3. 3.

At the current level of labor intensity in conducting on-site turbine tests by the absolute method with the use of current meters it is expedient to calibrate the flowmeter site of the scroll by the simplified method for subsequent solution of intrastation optimization problems.

  4. 4.

Taking into account that the results of on-site power tests of units by indirect methods of measuring the discharge are less reliable than in the case of tests by absolute methods, we must improve both the methods and the apparatus for direct measurement of discharges.
