Data of an experimental determination of the critical displacement velocity for rock masses are presented.

On the basis of analyzing the experimental data and examining the factors infuencing the critical displacement velocity, an analytical method is proposed for determining the critical displacement velocity during blasting in rock masses composed of various rocks and with various natural jointing.

The critical displacement velocity can serve as the basis when determining the boundaries of the zones of disturbance of rock masses by the effect of a blast.
