The effect of inhalation of air ions on the electro-chemical properties of blood during exsanguination and recovery of cats

Abstract

Inhalation of negative air ions during experimental exsanguination with resultant anoxia in cats exerted a favorable influence facilitating the reanimation. The increased oxygenation of the blood and the normalization of the acid-base balance promoted restoration of the activity of the brain centers and of other vital functions. The blood pressure remained at a higher level than that of the control group. A more rapid restoration of the reflexes was noted. Positive air ions had a similar but less distinct effect during the critical and recovery periods. Restoration of the reflexes was retarded.
