Effect of hydrotechnical works on the development of algae in Dnepr reservoir

Conclusions

The investigations show that the hydrotechnical works being conducted on the Dnepr reservoirs have a negative effect on phytoplankton and phytomicrobenthos only in the immediate vicinity of the operating units. These works have a greater effect on phytomicrobenthos than on phytoplankton. Accordingly, recovery of phytomicrobenthos occurs somewhat more slowly than that of phytoplankton, although it begins immediately after the end of the works. And complete recovery both of the planktonic and benthic algal communities occurs already after 1–2 years.
