1.
Compacted asphaltic concrete has become widespread abroad as a material for core walls of earth dams. Construction of a compacted asphaltic concrete core wall is accomplished by means of self-propelled asphaltic concrete placers. Our country presently does not have such equipment.
-
2.
A method was proposed and a technology was developed for constructing compacted asphaltic concrete core walls of an earth dam on the basis of Soviet quantity-produced equipment.
-
3.
The technology is based on preliminary formation of the body of the core wall by means of climbing-traveling forms and subsequent simultaneous compaction of the asphaltic concrete and soil adjacent to it by means of a DU-12A tamping machine.
-
4.
The proposed technology presumes the construction of the core wall in tiers of increased thickness (at least 0.5 m), which will make it possible to improve the technical and economic indices and the quality of the core wall.
-
5.
The technology is accessible for accelerated introduction, but experimental checking and further development are required. It has the necessary flexibility and rather high reliability.
