Abstract
The structure of thin, vacuum-deposited, selenium layers was investigated. During manufacturing tests it was found that the crystallisation and formation of a texture was aided by exposing the deposition surface to light. During the tempering process selenium layers which were deposited at low temperatures, (down to −180 °C), crystallise in a manner similar to those manufactured at normal room temperature. The process of crystallisation from the amorphous state was observed by using an electron microscope.
