Actions of the homeotopy group of an orientable 3-dimensional handlebody

Abstract

The actions of the homeotopy group of an orientable 3-dimensional handlebody on the fundamental group and on the first homology group are completely determined. As an application generators are obtained for the kernel of the canonical epimorphism of the automorphism group of a free group of rankn onto the automorphism group of a free abelian group of rankn.
