Observation of E2-fission decay for232Th from electro- and photoinduced reactions

Abstract

Recent electro- and photofission angular distribution data for232Th indicate a substantial amount of E2-fission strength near the fission barrier. The implications of these results are discussed, mainly regarding a previous suggestion, from a232Th (α, α′ f) study, that the fission decay of the isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance is inhibited.
