Mode-locking effects in a ruby laser with a regularly moving crystal

Abstract

If the crystal of a ruby laser is moved with velocities of over 50 cm sec−1 phenomena occur which can be interpreted as mode-locking effects. The frequency-splitting of the existing mode in this laser is caused by Doppler effect.
