Abstract
The deformed states of32S are studied in two different representations as a calculable microscopic example for the fission of actinides. The first representation is a two-centre shell model description, and the other one is in the framework of the α-cluster model. We compare the wave functions obtained in each model and find that the cluster model wave function may be represented by a small number of the lowest two-centre shell model wave functions for the whole range of deformations; hence, both models describe the same physical situation.
