Summary
The colorimetric methods, known from the literature, for the determination of small quantities of sulfide ions have been studied extensively; the absorption curves of the resulting dyestuffs and sulfur sols have been measured quantitatively. In most cases, there is thus obtained a measure of the sensitivity as well as information regarding the optimal wave length regions for conducting the colorimetric measurement. A more detailed discussion is given of the metal sulfide sols with respect to their use for the colorimetric determination of sulfide ions or hydrogen sulfide. The sols of silver, palladium, copper and bismuth were found to be quite sensitive and suitable. A good reagent for the detection with bismuth was also announced.
