Fine-structure and tensor polarizabilities of 1snd 3 D levels of He I (n=3 to 7)

Abstract

Using level crossing techniques the fine-structure splittings and tensor polarizabilities of the 1snd 3 D levels of He I withn=3 to 7 have been measured. For excitation we used 35 keV He+-He collisions. Magneticand electric fields perpendicular to the ion beam have been applied to the target volume. In this way level crossing signals overlapping if as usually a pure magnetic-field splitting is investigated could be shifted and separated. From these measurements precision values of the large fine-structure interval (n 3 D 1n 3 D 2), of the small one (n 3 D 2n 3 D 3), and of the tensor polarizabilities have been determined.
