Abstract
Three-dimensional spectra of thermogravitational convection on the transition from laminar to turbulent regimes in a short horizontal cylinder heated from below were investigated experimentally. In accordance with the experimental data, a basis satisfying the condition that the correlation matrix for the expansion coefficients of the temperature profiles in the central horizontal cross section of the cylinder be diagonal was constructed for each set of determining parameters of the problem. The use of such bases appreciably simplifies the description of the transition region. It is shown that on the development of a turbulent convection regime the three-dimensional spectrum expands critically.
