Abstract
Self-consistent calculations for this superheavy mass region are contrasted to the widely used liquid drop plus shell correction method (Strutinsky prescription). Some agreements, but also remarkable deviations and even direct contradictions in trends are observed. It seems that the Strutinsky method needs some major revision in order to be applicable in the superheavy mass region.
