Conclusions

We prepared and tested in the slag belt of the linings of steel ladles basic ladle products of several types. The wear of the basic refractories during one heat is 1.3–3.6 mm, and for chamotte 5.0–11.4 mm.

All the basic refractories are damaged by the growth of slag, their wear occurs as a result of scaling of the densified working zone under the action of a drop in temperature and due to the mechanical action on the lining. The wear of firebrick is due to fusion.

In the magnesite products department of the Nizhnetagilsk metallurgical combine we developed the production, and in the converter shop, introduced the use of unfired forsterite ladle products. Their resistance in the slag belt of 175-ton steel ladles is 2–3 times greater than that of firebrick.
