Summary
The cerebral medulla of monkeys was irradiated with x-rays. The development and decrease of the subsequent brain oedema was observed with regard to the correlation of electronmicroscopic and morphometric results. 6 hours after x-ray treatment the extracellular spaces begin to increase, reaching their maximum after 48 hours, and decrease again after 6 days. The structures of the medulla that may be responsible for the restitution are discussed. The endothelium of the capillaries and their functional activity are the main factor in this process.
