Summary
The concepts of “compatible”, or “coherent” norm with a splitting of matrix are studied at first. They constitute the adequat tool for proving the convergence of iterations of the formG r =L r +U r →G r+1 =(I-L r ) −1 U r . The Gauss-Seidel transform is thus iterated and the limitG ∞ =L+U satisfiesL=0. These (costly!) algorithms may be used for the solution of linear systems.
