Summary
In a previous communication the possibilities of the angiographic display of the cerebral vessels and of their arterial and venous cervical portions were demonstrated using the technique of axillary artery puncture. With an injection on the right side one obtains almost invariably good quality pictures both of the carotid and of the vertebral arteries. On the left side the filling depends on the anatomical data, but with few exceptions only the vertebral artery is outlined.
With this method all the complications which may be brought about by puncture and injection of arteries which directly supply the brain were reduced. For this reason the main indications comprise cervicocerebral vascular lesions. Additional indications are intracranial space-occupying lesions, especially when they involve the territory between the carotid and the vertebral circulations. Further indications for this technique are those cerebral clinical pictures whose pathology and localisation cannot be identified by clinical methods.
In a personal series of patients no significant complications were observed.
