Summary
A method is described for the production of monolayer cultures of epithelial-like cells from fragments of fetal bovine spleen. The initial fibroblasticlike outgrowth from such fragments kept in stationary culture is soon replaced by epithelial-like cells which thereafter predominate. The latter, commonly referred to as BESp cells, have been useful for isolation, identification, and propagation of several bovine viruses.
