Zero-field quantum beats in Lyman-α radiation subsequent to beam-foil interaction of protons

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and nuclei

Abstract

Zero-field quantum beats were observed in Lyman-α emission (1216 Å) from hydrogen atoms formed by beam-foil interaction of 50 to 270 keV proton beams. Relative excitation crossections for magnetic substates of the 2P level of hydrogen were derived from modulation amplitudes and are discussed with respect to the excitation process.
