Refractories Aims and scope

Conclusions

A method of producing refractories from Kovdor deposit natural baddeleyite concentrate, with the use of natural grain-size powders (less than 0.5 mm) obtained after concentration of the residues of iron ore concentrate, has been developed.

To obtain parts of natural baddeleyite by combining stabilization with firing, it is necessary to add previously synthesized calcium zirconate as a stabilizing addition and a firing addition of Al2O3 to improve firing and increase the strength properties.

The production of sectors of natural grain-size baddeleyite has been introduced at the Borovichi Refractory Combine. Such parts have found use as the thermal insulation lining of continuous furnaces with a service temperature on the refractory surface of 2000°C.
