Conclusions

We obtained some quantitative indices for the effect of the dimensions of blocks on the value of the temperature stresses which determine to a significant extent the serviceable life of linings made from refractory concrete blocks.

In order to lower the extensive stresses in the sides faces of the blocks and to prevent cracking, it is necessary that the length of the blocks be 3–4 times the width.
