Produced entropy in quantum statistics

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and nuclei

Abstract

The statistical quantity “gain of information”, which is the thermodynamic equivalent to the entropy produced in the interior of a system, will be defined for quantum theoretical statistical operators in analogy to classical probability distributions. Connections with thermostatics and thermodynamics of non-equilibrium processes are demonstrated. In particular, the stability of steady states is discussed, and a formula for the probability of fluctuations in a steady state is given.
