Conclusions
Measurements of the powers released in the characteristic zones of an OKB-955N electric furnace working space and also the change in them with an increase in voltage were measured for the first time.
The length of the arc was determined, and its discontinuity was established. The total time of the current pauses is 1.8 msec per half-period. Objective criteria guaranteeing the obtaining of a quality block were established. These criteria are a depth of the molten material of 500-60 mm and an impedance of the phase not exceeding 5·10−3 Ω. The use of the new method of measurements makes it possible to control the course of the melting process and to optimize its parameters.
