Scattering of spin one-half particles from one-dimensional electrostatic potentials

Abstract

By means of a covariant formalism for the description of spin we investigate the scattering of polarized spin one-half particles from electrostatic potentials that depend on only one space coordinate. We find for an arbitrary potential the scattering intensity to be independent of the polarization of the initial beam. The polarization vector is rotated about an axis normal to the plane of incidence through an angle that only depends on the energy and the angle of incidence of the initial beam.
