Conclusions

The carbon-containing mass which has been developed for tamping the spouts and casing of the iron notches of blast furnaces using a composite binder containing no carcinogenic substances has adequate physicomechanical and thermophysical properties by comparison with the sinter-containing masses currently used in industry.

The compaction and strengthening of the specimens made from the mass with the composite binder occurs as a result of the interaction between the batch components and the gas phase, followed by the formation of silicon nitrides, silicon oxynitrides, and compounds of the sialon type.

The mass with the composite binder can be recommended for industrial use with the aim of improving labor conditions and protecting the environment.
