Summary
In a submerged Claviceps purpurea culture decrease of the Krebs cycle (KC) activity and rise of that of glyoxylate cycle (GC) preceded the intensive alkaloid synthesis. Pyruvate entered the cell mainly via GC. Some KC acids participated in the lifting of catabolite repression to increase the alkaloid yield significantly.
