Abstract
Scattering of fast muons by copper nuclei was studied by a cloud chamber containing five copper plates of thickness 10.7 g/cm2 each operated by coincidence and anticoincidence technique in the momentum range 1.70± 0.05 BeV/c. Muons of scattering angles up to 5.5‡ (elastic momentum transfer ∼170 MeV/c) were observed, and 4,002 scatterings were analysed. The experimental scattering distribution was close to the theoretical distribution of Cooper and Rainwater for electromagnetic interaction between the muon and the finite nucleus. No significant anomaly in scattering angles was detected.
