Abstract
The momentum autocorrelation function of a heavy particle in an infinite harmonic chain in thermal equilibrium is shown to be an example of “Onsager separation”. This separability ensures that thestatistical entropy production associated with the momentum relaxation of the particle contains aphenomenological part which proves to be always positive.
