Abstract

Bends made by various technologies, including radio frequency heating, are used in the fabrication and repair of power boilers. The technology of making bends by rf heating is used by fabricating plants and enterprises that repair power systems. The heating temperature is monitored mainly by the color of the metal and the cooling rate is not specified at all. A nonuniform temperature distribution along the length and the cross section of the tubes is possible when bends are made by this technology. The tube bends do not undergo any subsequent heat treatment of the tube bends. The structure of the metal is checked on one bend in each batch. Systematic data about anomalies of the structure and properties of the metals of rf-heated bends have not been available to date. The article reports the results of studies on several tens of cold-worked and rf-heated bends in tubes with an outside diameter of 76 to 159 min made of carbon steel 20 (0.2% C).
