Conclusions

Melting of baddeleyite and production of fused powders of zirconium dioxide stabilized by calcium oxide in OKB-955N electric furnaces has been introduced.

The fused baddeleyite block has a zonal structure related to migration of impurities and the stabilizing addition and to the character of solidification of the material. After grinding the material is blended and variations in the stabilizing addition content do not exceed 0.7%.

It was shown that fused zirconium powders are suitable for the production of thermal insulation packings, tamping mixtures, and parts satisfying the requirements of current specifications.
