Summary

A technique based on the principles of leaching accumulated salts and removing excess water by applying suction through a porous plate has been suggested for conducting pot experiments with saline irrigation water. This technique is suitable for greenhouse experiments on a large scale because of its relative simplicity and accuracy. The container design incorporates a number of simple improvements and provides greater accuracy without complicating the experimental procedure. The technique was tested by conducting two experiments with corn. Large fluctuations in salt concentration within the soil could be prevented only with a high irrigation frequency.
