Summary
TheTaraxacum-officinale-complex includes in the area of Lower-Austria polyploid as well as diploid types. The investigation of 5 populations (100 plants in each) shows, that most of them contain a mixture of diploid and polyploid plants; even most part-populations are mixed. Purely diploid and purely polyploid part-populations are rare. Within the predominantly diploid populations one can distinguish different form-types and groups of them just as in mainly polyploid populations. The number of form-types observed only once seems to bee increase with increasing sexuality of the populations. Form-types represented by several plants often contain diploids and polyploids. Some form-types were found occuring within different populations. Facultative or partial sexuality of polyploids, the mixed structure of populations as well as the varying garniture of form-types of the particular collections can give useful criteria for demarcating populations including diploids as well as polyploids. A distinction and description of microspecies from the diploid-polyploid contacting area only will be possible and tenable on the basis of an intrinsic knowledge of the populations from which he plants came from.
