Summary
Plate-like Ubisch bodies are present on the inner cell wall of tapetal cells ofOxalis rosea, O. corymbosa, O. pubescens andO. corniculata. Contrary to the current opinion they are not located on the outside of the inner cell wall but on its inside. These platelets develop intracellular. First lipid droplets move to the plasmalemma und accumulate in groups. Deposition of sporopollenin around the droplets leads ultimately to the formation of Ubisch bodies, which vary in form and size. The smallest platelets show a circular shape while all larger ones possess a more complicated form and a crenate limb beeing aggregates of the smallest typ. All these Ubisch bodies have a tubular internal structure. The channels originate by dissolution of the lipid droplets. It has been confirmed newly that Ubisch bodies and exine can be considered as homologous, but they are unnecessary for exine formation.
