Abstract

Laser microprobe mass analysis (LAMMA) provides qualitative information on mineral fibers in human lung tissue, ashed lung samples and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL). Chemical surface alternations caused by fluids in the human lung can be characterized. In laser desorption conditions the negative spectra indicate the presence of ferritin. The measurements support and complement data obtained by electron microscopy.
