Interaction of a two level atom with many photons

II. General Solution in Exponential Approximation

Abstract

In a previous part I it had been shown that the interaction of a two-level atom with transverse photons in a continuum of modes “decays” in an excellent approximation into independent “partial” interaction processes. In the present work we solve in a reliable approximation the equations of motion of these partial processes for all possible initial states of the atom photon system.
