Structure investigation of quench condensed Sb — Au-films by insitu electron diffraction

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik B Condensed Matter

Abstract

Electron diffraction patterns have been recorded insitu from quench condensed Sb—Au-films using a Si-detector. The total scattered intensities were normalized to interference functions. From their Fourier transforms we obtained information about the short range order within the films. It turned out that they can be stabilized in a liquid-like structure in the concentration range from approximately 37 at% Au to 80 at% Au. Like in comparable liquid systems this structure exhibits a specific short range order. This is demonstrated by a comparison of the experimental interference functions with calculated functions based on the short range orders of the compound Sb2Au and Au. The stability of the liquid-like films is discussed with respect to their electronic behaviour.
