Conclusions

The gases emanating from the brands of periclase investigated here contained hydrogen, water vapor, carbon monoxide, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. Hydrogen and water vapor formed the largest proportion of the volume of emitted gases.

To reduce the in-vacuo gas emissions of TEH effectively the periclase should first be roasted in air.
