The fluorescent spectrum and collective effects in absorptive bistability

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik B Condensed Matter

Abstract

The fluorescent spectrum for absorptive bistability is calculated in the bad-cavity limit and found to be dominated by a component corresponding to single-atom resonance fluorescence in the net cavity field. Collective effects appear as corrections of order 1/N-N being the number of atoms. Previous treatments which find collective featurres at the dominant order implicitly assume equality between like-atom and unlike-atom correlations.

New York: Plenum Press 1978 Neither of these papers directly addresses the question of calculating the fluorescent spectrum as defined in [21]. Nevertheless, their results, although in error as presented, in fact agree with the fluorescent spectrum from Refs. 20 and 21. As such, they have been accepted as support for the current understanding of fluorescence in absorptive bistability
