Abstract
A method for calculating the spin polarization of photoelectrons excited by circularly polarized light in solids is proposed. The matrix elements of the electron-photon interaction Hamiltonian are obtained with the relativistic augmented-plane-wave method by Loucks. The degree of the spin polarization can be calculated using these matrix elements which represent optical transitions taking into account the spin states.
