Raman and infrared studies of [N(CH3)4]2ZnCl4

A normal versus superspace description

Abstract

The relevance of a superspace description for Raman and infrared spectra in the commensurate phases of [N(CH3)4]2ZnCl4 has been studied. The selection rules for light scattering have been determined in all phases using as well the normal space groups as one superspace group for all phases. The results have been compared with experimental data. Special attention has been devoted to the domain structure in the two monoclinic phases.
